Unit 1: Sequencing or Recording
- Emphasis on music technology as an area of advanced study in its own right.
- Musical performance defined as an interpretative and creative skill using music technology.
- Music technology studied within the context of its influence on the way music is produced and listened to.
- Encourages the use of music technology as a tool for composing, arranging and score writing.
- Provides a thorough grounding in sequencing and recording skills.
- Introduces the principles of music technology and aural skills through practical and theoretical means.
- 60 per cent coursework.
- Students will cover both sequencing and recording in the AS course but must choose to specialize in either sequencing or recording.
Unit 2: Arranging & Improvising
- In this unit students will focus on creating two short arrangements, one of which must be popular music
- The arrangement will be realized through either sequencing or recording (the opposite to the students specialist in Unit

This unit involves tasks, which test the knowledge, skills and understanding developed across the whole course. |

The purpose of the areas of study is to create a focus to the whole course. Music is seen as an interrelated activity that requires and understanding of the compositional and performance processes as well as the use of analytical skills
.In AS Music Technology students have to study work from 3 areas:
The development of technology in music
Music from the western classical tradition
Popular music and Jazz
Students taking AS Music Technology may also take AS music.
